About Me

My photo
I am 36 years old and a mother of two beautiful little girls. Kevin and I have been married for 11 years. He is a stay-at-home dad who runs his own business from our home. I am a part-time 3rd grade teacher and have been teaching for 15 years. I live no more than 10 minutes away from my parents, in-laws, sisters, nieces, newest nephew, grandparents, aunts, and uncles... I wouldn't want it any other way!

You Know You're in Trouble When...

...you walk by a room where your 2 year-old is playing and she shouts, "Nothing going on in here!"

...your 2 year-old walks past you with her arms behind her back singing, "Nothing in my hands, nothing in my hands."

...your 5- year old uses the word "Obviously" (in her most disgusted voice) to start her sentences when she is trying to make a point that mama is just not putting 2 and 2 together.

...your 5 year-old is just 3 days away from starting her 1st Day of Kindergarten!

...someone leaves a message on the voice mail saying that she will be Kennedy's teacher this year. Kennedy's teacher! I cannot even put into words how hearing those words made me feel. It was very strange. I mean Kennedy! My baby! No, this can't be right! But it is, she starts her 1st day of preschool in just 6 short days!

Why do my babies have to grow up so fast? I am getting all teary-eyed just typing this post. I have such mixed emotions. I am really excited about all of the new things ahead of us, but it is a little sad to see my babies growing up so darn fast!

Dancing Fools

Many of you know that Kevin and I started Ballroom dancing one year ago. Well, we attended the Dayton Dance Classic (DDC) this weekend. The DDC is a local dance competition. The dancers compete against the ballroom dance standards, not against the other dancers. It is a great way to compare how well we are dancing to where we should be at this stage of our dancing. The judge flew in from Wisconsin, and is a national champion dancer! We competed in 19 different heats. We danced Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha-Cha, and Swing. Wow, what an experience! We were very pleased with our performances, for the most part. We were worried about getting out there and just forgetting all that we had learned. But, once the music started, we just started dancing, and we remembered all of our moves.

I needed three different dresses where as Kevin needed a black suit with a vest and three different shirts/ties to match each of my dresses. We both ordered new dance shoes too. We racked up quite a bill by the time all was bought, but it was so worth it...especially seeing how awesome Kevin looked all spiffed up!
Here is outfit #1...for dancing the Foxtrot and Waltz

Now, outfit #2...for Swing, Rumba, and Cha-Cha
(I hate my posture here, I am totally slouching
and making myself look dumpy...yuck!)

And finally, outfit #3...dinner and awards ceremony!

Okay, we are so putting ourselves out there. Here we are swing dancing!

Now that DDC is over, we are in a year-long practice for a big stage show in June. For the show, Kevin and I are dancing a swanky little "cat and mouse" solo number to Michael Buble's "Fever." We have a choreographer and everything. It is such a cool song and an awesome routine, I can't wait! It is totally a full-on "Dancing with the Stars" type routine...with lifts, dips...everything!
In my past (prior to starting ballroom dancing last August),I had never been one to like dancing. I would get so embarrassed. I always loved to perform in cheerleading. But, when we would come to the dance portion of our routines, I always asked my cheerleading coach to move me from the front point of the pyramid to somewhere in the middle so my dancing would be less noticeable. Considering how sensual I am going to have to be in our stage show routine, I am going to have to get over my shyness fast.

Dancing has been so good for our relationship. It is something that we are both enjoying. We love spending the time together and having our scheduled date nights every week. I am so fortunate that Kevin has been willing to venture into dancing. He is a trooper, and I love him dearly!
