This Friday night, we attended the 5oth birthday party for Katelyn's elementary school. The school had a 50's spirit day for the students Friday in order to get them all pumped up and excited about the big Friday night party. Katelyn had a poodle skirt from a VBS dance group she was in when she was three years old. Much to my surprise, the skirt was a perfect fit! (It was obviously huge when she wore it three years ago). She was a little unsure about her outfit because she was afraid she would be the only one dressed up. I actually called to check on her during the day to see if we should bring in a change of clothes. She was not the only student dressed up and was enjoying the outfit.
At the party, they had a 50's sock hop, food, cake, and they had pictures of former students, teachers, and principals. Actually, all living former Fairbrook principals were in attendance. They also had several yearbooks from the past 50 years. Since Kevin is a former Fairbrook Fox himself, I saw lots of pictures of my husband as a little boy. It was really cool to catch a glimpse of his childhood.
Then, much to our surprise, the current principal opened a 25 year-old time capsule that the Fairbrook students had put together back in 1984! Guess what, Kevin was a student there in 1984! We dug around in the time capsule's contents and found an essay he had written. In his 5th grade essay, he introduced himself to the current students of Fairbrook and mentioned that he had written this letter for them 25 years ago. It was so cool! It was a little freaky when some of the 1984 students had written that the time capsule would be opened on Fairbrook's 50th birthday, in 2009...that's today! Wow! 2009 must have seemed unrealistic and so far away to kids way back in 1984!
The current Fairbrook students are putting together a new time capsule to be opened on Fairbrook's 75th birthday. Katelyn will be part of this new time capsule. The whole thing was really amazing!

Here is Katelyn in her poodle skirt before school. She didn't want to wear it to the Friday night party because she said there would be too many people making comments about her (that would so embarrass little miss Katelyn).
Here is a picture of Katelyn and Kennedy along with two of Katelyn's classmates
